Speedy

I've had a pet dog named Speedy, for about 10 years. I never really played with her, or took her for walks or anything, because to be honest, I'm not really that much of an animal person. I've always heard these things like "a dog is a man's best friend" but I just thought it was some kinda dumb animal. Today while my dad was driving me home from dinner, he told me that Speedy had cancer, I asked "how long does she have to live?" and he responded "the doctor says she has one month.... also take this leftover fish from dinner to her." As I walked over to her cage/pen/dog house, tears formed in my eyes.I held out the salmon above her, and started talking to her. I talked to her about how I was gonna miss her, and how I feel like I didn't spend enough time with her. Then I gave her the salmon, then walked inside.

I'm really sad, knowing my dog is gonna pass away soon, I've heard so many stories about kids getting heart broken about their pets dying, but I honesty never payed too much attention to Speedy, so I feel really confused on why I'm so upset. Maybe it's because she was sorta a piece of my childhood, that I wasted, and now I'll never get it back. I don't know.
