I know right! she acts so much younger! It kind of makes me wonder if rather than being gradual her change to her more mature current behavior happened because of Rose Quartz becoming Steven. Either due to sorrow from the loss, or out of a desire to take better care of/be a better guardian to Steven.
Also, it was so cool to see Rainbow Quartz! That design was just super cool.... and super dated. The crewniverse did a really great job in making her fit the era!

So, Yellowtail and Onion are aliens. Yay/nay? Pffffft Honestly though i kind of wonder if the crewniverse put the birth video in as a nod to all the fandom 'onion isn't human' theories.

I dunno, I wouldn't be too quick to dismiss it. It could be that Onion is half human, Yellowtail being alien and Vidalia being full human. I think it's been established that the Gems colonized other worlds, and it could be that Yellowtail himself, or possibly an ancestor of his was a refugee. Maybe Vidalia is distantly related to him, explaining her onion-like pallor, her unlikely attraction to the sailor, and her penchant for food-related names. My main reason for pushing this is that we've seen a lot of Onion, yet unlike so many other minor characters that've had some, most considerably less, time in the spotlight, we still know next to nothing about him firsthand. Just as well, so many of those characters are totally creeped out by him, and have explicitely posed the question if he's human or not. And it's a good question, because he doesn't really look like the others. Now, those could've jsut been jokes, but foreshadowing comes from the unlikeliest places in this show (look at the star child poster in Onion's lair for another possible example), so, again, I wouldn't write it off just yet(Truth be told, I would be more disappointed if he was just an ordinary boy ).

I don't know, I've always just read Onion's weirdness as just a joke, given that it's generally played for laughs. While it is technically possible that he could be an alien I guess I just don't really... see a point to it? Or any real evidence. But that's just me I guess.

There probably isn't much point to it, but then again, is there really a point to any character in a show being there? We can look at nearly any minor character and see where their arc is going: Ronaldo wants validation, Lars and Sadie want each other, etc. Hell, Buck Dewey had an entire arc in a single episode. Meanwhile, Onion has gotten so much screentime and we are still left wondering just what the hell his deal is. Were this a purely episodic show, like Spongebob, then I'd have no doubts that he's simply a recurring gag character. But because it is (or at least claims to be) a deep, tightly woven story, then there has to be something more to him, and whilst in any other situation him secretly being an alien would be a cheap story move, here is a rare case of it actually being able to work out well, should they go that route.

Onion's weirdness is just a joke as far as Im concerned. His family is meant to be a host of puns. (Yellowtail and Sour Cream and Onion = Fish and Chips. Vidalia is also a type of onion). I think people are WAY to willing to ignore the fact that Steven Universe has an abstract sense of character design. Onion doesnt have ears because he's supposed to look like an onion; thats probably it. If he had ears, the 'Onion's an alien theory' would all most likely vanish.
I dont really know where the idea that 'gems dont have ears' comes from. Amethyst has pulled her hair back to reveal an ear before. All the gems have thick hair - their ears are just hidden by it. The show plays loose with character design and has no hard and fast rules.

And we're back!!
Tonight's episode was so good! It was really nice to see the whole situation with Connie and her mom and gem shenanigans start to be resolved. This episode also really made me wonder about how exposed people in the SU world are to the supernatural. I mean, Connie's mom didn't really seem to get freaked out at all by the gem clusters (even when one didn't have a heartbeat!), but at the same time she didn't recognize them as gems? I guess we just don't know how familiar humans in different areas are with gems and magic, at least not yet.

The atmosphere was super tense during the build-up to the clusters. They did a great job with that part.
I think Dr. Maheswaran was sorta trying to keep cool for Steven/Connie's sake, as she didn't actually look under the sheet at the cluster before taking the pulse, but SOMEONE had to look at those things and say "Send them to the ER", so the people of Steven Universe are either pretty dumb or pretty desensitized.

I agree, I LOVED the atmosphere in this episode.
Personally, I figure that the SU population is just sort of desensitized to magic. I mean, there are all sorts of magic floaty temples and whatnot on the planet, and gems have presumably had some effect on human history. I figure that magic aliens existing on earth is just an established historical fact in that world.
Also, i'm pretty sure that Connie's mom did look under the sheet before taking the pulse? When she said "that doesn't look like a car accident" or whatever.

So how bout this STEVENNUKE, huh?
I'm pretty damn hype tbh (also, really worried about the inevitable MEGAHIATUS to follow but shhhhhhhhh...) and the first two episodes were already pretty great (as always)! It was kind of weird to me, though, that we didn't really get an answer to what Lapis and Peridot are doing or where they're living?? But I'm sure we'll see more of them later. What I'm really looking forward to right now is more Stevonnie, because they showed up in the promo (with a cool jacket that I think was the one Connie's dad has?????) and we so rarely get to see them. fingers still crossed for Stevonnie wielding Rose's sword/shield whilst riding lion into battle.
Also, the promo art that the crewniverse put out had an image of Steven with the Bismuth bubble!! New character inbound????
This is gonna be great.

Were there two episodes? I only saw Drop Beat Dad. But yeah, it certainly looks like SU is slowly edging towards going the way of the Homestuck. We're in for a wild, sporadic ride.

Yeah, the first episode was Steven Floats (which, to be fair, aired in some other countries ages ago, but I hadn't seen it so it was new for me)
